"Ottica Mantovani", Italy’s oldest opticians shop, opened in Venice near the San Marco area, in the Mercerie del Capitello, just after the reunification of Venice to the Kingdom of Italy in 1871, under the influence of the new political situation and the economic push. The shop specialized in the retail of lenses and optical instruments. Some years later, in the nineteen twenties, Augusto Carlon joined the company and, for almost 65 years, worked with passion to keep up the high reputation and designation of the "antico negozio d'ottico di Venezia e d'Italia", obtaining international fame.
Today, his daughter and grandchildren continue the tradition, keeping the same professionalism while, at the same time, looking for those new styles and prestigious and exclusive brands that contribute to make their name famous throughout world.
Nowadays, the “Ottica Mantovani” is the oldest opticians shop of Italy.
In fact, Ottica Mantovani, can boast a number of celebrities and intellectuals among its customers, like Peggy Guggenheim in the 50's and, more recently, the theater actor Mario Valgoi and many others. The workshop, just above the shop, features the mostadvanced technologies and hi-tech equipment enabling fast and technically-perfect fittings. The Ottica Mantovani is, actually, the only shop in Venice to provide personalized fittings in just 30 minutes, offering the most exhaustive array of corrective lenses for all types of sight problem: myopia (even high myopia) astigmatism and presbyopia.
